A/D converter
Converts an analogue signal into a digital signal.
AAC
Advanced Audio Coding. An alternative technology to MP3.
AAD
Music recorded and mastered in analogue form (A), then converted digitally (D).
AC-3
The former name of Dolby Digital.
AGARAS
Anti-Glare Anti-Reflection Anti-Static. A coating which actively suppresses reflected light.
ANSI Lumen
Standard for measuring brightness (projectors and screens).
Auto Creasecare
To ensure the items are as easy as possible to iron the washer uses cooler water at the end of the cycle with some machines choosing to spin at gentler rates.
Auto Half Load
The washing machine uses less water for a smaller load after sensing how much is in the drum.
Automatic Focus
Applies to Camcorders and cameras. Simply means that the lens is focussed automatically on the subject. More advanced select several different areas of the picture to set the focus.
Auto Set-up/ Tuning
At the press of a button searches through the stations and memorises them. Usually labels, sorts and gets and gets the machine ready for operation including setting the clock.
AVL
Automatic Volume Leveller. Minimises sudden changes in TV volume when commercials are transmitted.
